You will not be able to access a network drive or the internet.Mainstream support ended on ApExtended support ended on April 11, 2017 Because the LAN driver has to be changed you will need to have the Windows 7 version of the driver available on your computer or on a disk or drive that can be run from your machine. Some drivers had to be replaced, like the LAN. I found that most of the programs I had that ran in XP ran in 7. For instance, I was told to remove Windows Shell, but there is no option to uninstall it as it was part of XP I deleted the program without making any edits to the registry and the installer liked it. 4) Expect the installation program to tell you that you have to make changes before you can continue. 3) Use a Windows 7 SP 1 upgrade disk as it makes it a lot easier. I tried it it first with a Vista disk that did not have SP1 on it and ran into trouble when Vista's download and installation of SP1 continually failed, I had to start from scratch. Anyone that has done an operating system upgrade by using the new installation method rather than the upgrade method probably knows that it takes a long time to reinstall and configure your programs. You can't do a direct upgrade from XP to 7, Oddly you can upgrade from XP to Vista and you can upgrade Vista to 7, but to go from XP to 7 you have to do a new install (so says Microsoft). I bought Vista only for the purpose of upgrading Windows XP with Service Pack 3 to Windows 7.
