This definition is the same as peace defined by the United Nations and it is similar to Maniguad’s definition of Peace as freedom from war and hatred. Peace as defined by the Webster Dictionary is the condition of well-being and happiness the absence of, or freedom from, strife, hatred or violence between people or nations. In short, conflict is a state of hostility between people, or groups of people, that causes hostilities between opposing groups of people. They also claim that some cases of war may be instead called “mass wars.” The authors state that war is not always caused by combat, but can also be initiated in a variety of ways that may include mild, psychological or nonviolent means. At times, war has been necessary as a tool to settle disputes. In discussing matters of dispute between states, peace is more likely to be secure when the process is complex, multipolar, and strategic. Negotiations between states have been useful for creating or responding to military conflicts between states. Because of these factors, nations have always been independent entities with their own history, culture, languages, and ethnicity. These factors serve as either a splinter or a catalyst to form a new nation. Other factors like history, language, ethnicity, race, resource distribution, geographical economic factors, cultural patterns, and geographical border, act as either barriers or avenues to form or break up a nation. These four major factors determine how an area of the world is ruled. Geography, economics, population, religion, and other factors is the set of interrelations between nations. There are certain nation-specific factors that shape the nature of relations between states. Whatever their differences, all states relate in one form or another. Some states have a common national identity and character.
These are groups of people who comprise a state, either in war or at peace.
